The trillion-dollar spending bill House and Senate negotiators crafted on Sunday includes $68 million to repay local law enforcement agencies for costs incurred in protecting President Donald Trump and his family, the New York Post reported Monday.

The funds would go to the New York Police Department, which spent more than $2 million per week securing Trump Tower in Manhattan when the president was interviewing for his Cabinet positions before his inauguration, a Democratic congressional aide told the newspaper. The city continues to spend six figures a week protecting First Lady Melania Trump and their son Barron, who will continue to live in New York City until the end of the school year.

The money will also go to law enforcement agencies in Florida to repay expenses when the president travels to his Mar-a-Lago estate. The House could vote on the bill as early as Tuesday.

The news should sooth lawmakers who have criticized the expenses borne by local law enforcement agencies. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has been a vocal critic of the burden it placed on the NYPD.

"[Mayor Bill de Blasio] ought to tell the Congress if we don't pay for it, New York City cops aren't guarding it, and let the Feds put more people in," Schumer told BuzzFeed News on Saturday.

New York Democratic Rep. Nita Lowey hailed the news, stating she was "very pleased New York taxpayers will not be on the hook for these critical and necessary expenses."

Democratic Rep. José Serrano, who represents the Bronx, said that now New York City "does not have to reduce resources elsewhere in order to protect Trump Tower."

Trump told Fox News on Friday, "I love New York," but said he goes back "as little as possible" because of the added expenses to localities.

The spending bill will fund the government through the rest of fiscal year 2017, which ends Sept. 30.
