Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, called on the Senate Intelligence Committee to subpoena former national security adviser Susan Rice regarding her actions around the unmasking of U.S. citizens in intelligence reports.

Corny is a member of the committee, and his plea came after Rice defended her role in former President Barack Obama's White House by saying everything she did, including submitting requests to have American citizens' names revealed in intelligence reports, was part of her job.

"I believe she should be called as a witness by the Senate Intelligence Committee that has been conducting an investigation into the Russian activities leading up to the election," Cornyn said during an appearance on Fox News.

"Also part of the investigation is how information about American citizens was acquired and whether it was illegally leaked to the public, classified information."

Rice said she never leaked anything to the public during her stint in the White House.

Cornyn said aside from the leaks, the fact American citizens' privacy rights might have been violated is reason enough to be concerned.

"It's a big deal because we very carefully protect the privacy of U.S. citizens in foreign intelligence collection and that's part of the confidence-building measures we have there to assure people that while it's important to get the intelligence, it's also important to protect the privacy rights of American citizens," he said.

Cornyn told his 101,000 Twitter followers Tuesday he wants Rice to testify:
