The Secret Service asked for an extra $60 million for security costs to protect Donald Trump and his family, The Washington Post reports.

Some of that money, requested in February, was earmarked for Trump's private home in Trump Tower, where the commander in chief's wife Melania and their 10-year-old son Barron live, says the newspaper, which reviewed internal agency documents.

According to The Post, Trump has spent most weekends since his inauguration at his Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach. As well, his sons have traveled the world to promote Trump properties — with Secret Service agents.

A source told The Post the requests for additional funding were rejected by the Office of Management and Budget.

"That means the agency will likely have to divert other spending to handle the additional burden," the newspaper's Drew Harwell and Amy Brittain report.
