Sarah Palin: 'Hollywood Leftists' Go After 'American Sniper'

Sarah Palin on Monday took aim at "Hollywood leftists" who criticize the U.S. military – particularly snipers like the sharpshooters depicted in the hugely popular movie "American Sniper."

In a Facebook post, the former Alaska governor and 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee blasted military-haters as "not fit to shine Chris Kyle's combat boots."

The movie is based on the book by the late Navy SEAL, known as the most lethal sniper in history. It opened to a huge box-office response over the weekend and has snagged six Oscar nominations, including best picture and best actor for Bradley Cooper, who portrays Kyle.

"Hollywood leftists: while caressing shiny plastic trophies you exchange among one another while spitting on the graves of freedom fighters who allow you to do what you do, just realize the rest of America knows you’re not fit to shine Chris Kyle’s combat boots," Palin posted.

"May the epic 'American Sniper' bring nothing but blessings to Taya [Kyle's widow] and the children of this true American hero," she wrote, adding: "Thank you Bradley Cooper and [director] Clint Eastwood for respecting the United States Military."

Palin's comments followed a flood of criticism triggered by tweets from director Michael Moore and comedian Seth Rogen.

Moore tweeted Sunday his uncle was killed in World War II by a sniper, saying such shooters were considered "cowards."

Rogen also took to Twitter about the film, essentially comparing it to Nazi propaganda.

The pro-military PAC Move America Forward also slammed Moore's tweet as a "despicable attack, The Hill reports.

Former GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich also jumped on Moore’s comments:

Moore later wrote on his Facebook page that he wasn't criticizing the film at all, for which he had high praise.
