Almost three-quarters of Americans are concerned the U.S. could get involved in a war with North Korea, while 25 percent expressed little or no concern, a new Washington Post/ABC News poll reveals.

Here are highlights from the survey:

  • 36 percent said they have either a "great deal" confidence or a "good amount" in President Donald Trump being able to handle the situation with North Korea.
  • 63 percent said they have either "just some" confidence or none at all in the president's ability to deal with North Korea.
  • 81 percent of Republicans trust Trump at least a good amount to handle North Korea, compared to 11 percent of Democrats and 31 percent of independents.
  • 66 percent of all those polled said North Korea poses a "serious threat" to the U.S., compared to 14 percent who said it poses a threat, but not serious and 15 percent who said it does not pose any threat.

The poll of 1,001 people was conducted July 10-13, shortly after North Korea launched its farthest-reaching missile test. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent points.
