Authorities in Poland have confirmed that a train has been discovered that could be the so-called Nazi treasure train that has been missing since the end of World War II.

It's not clear whether the finding is the missing train, which is reported to contain gold, gems, and guns.

As legend has it, the Nazi train was allegedly loaded up in the German city of Breslau, which is now a part of Poland called Wroclaw. The train supposedly entered a tunnel near a cliff-top medieval castle, however it never emerged, as the Soviet Army approached on May 8, 1945, halting its progress.

Two men recently said they had located the train, but would not reveal its exact location until authorities guaranteed them a cut of what the haul is worth.

According to an NBC News report, a train has been located.

"The city [of Walbrzych] is full of mysterious stories because of its history," the town's deputy mayor Zygmunt Nowaczyk said, reports NBC. "Now it is formal information — [we] have found something."

Local government press officer Arkadiusz Golebiewski confirmed, according to NBC, that a military train has been found in Walbrzych — a city in Poland's southwest corner near the Czech Republic.

A BBC report claims the train could be holding 150 meters long and may be carrying up to 300 tons of gold.

The Nazis are rumored to have constructed underground military installations linked together via tunnels in order to hide from allied forces during World War II.

"The train contains valuable objects, costly industrial materials and precious metal ores" the men who allegedly found the train wrote in their proposal.
