Obama Says 'Ground Game' Critical

By    |   Sunday, 26 Oct 2014 05:29 PM

President Barack Obama is appealing to donors to fund a ground effort he says is vital to helping Democrats maintain control of the Senate.

In an email sent out by the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee over the weekend, Obama admits a "dozen Senate races could go either way."

The DSCC's Get Out The Vote operation, Obama writes, is the party's final line of defense against Republicans winning at least six seats, which would give them control of both chambers.

"For the next nine days, our folks on the ground will spend every waking hour knocking on doors, making phone calls, and getting voters to the polls," Obama said in the email.

The email, sent Saturday, urges donors to contribute immediately, and says that any contributions made before midnight would be "triple matched."

"[A]s I know from my own campaign: strong grassroots campaigns cost money, and it’s not easy to go toe-to-toe with the Republican billionaires," Obama wrote.
