A Newsweek journalist filed a civil lawsuit in federal court against a man who allegedly sent a tweet with a strobe light image and the message: "You deserve a seizure for your posts," Lawnewz.com reported.

According to the outlet, Kurt Eichenwald, who has epilepsy, did suffer a seizure from the Dec. 15, 2016, tweet allegedly sent by John Rivello of Salisbury, Md.

The FBI arrested Rivello in March, and his account on Twitter has been suspended.

"The purpose of the civil suit is to make clear to Mr. Rivello and to others who have engaged in similar behavior that there is a risk in attacking people with disabilities and a risk to attacking journalists as well," Steven Lieberman, Eichenwald's lawyer told Newsweek, "even if the attack occurs through electronic means."

The lawyer previously compared the Twitter attack to sending a bomb in the mail or an envelope filled with anthrax, Newsweek reported.

In direct messages to Twitter users about the strobing image, Rivello allegedly wrote, "I hope this sends him into a seizure," "Let's see if he dies," and "I know he has epilepsy," according to a search warrant, Newsweek reported.

He also allegedly took screenshots related to Eichenwald and of a webpage on Epilepsy.com that contained "a list of commonly reported epilepsy seizure triggers," the Department of Justice said, Newsweek reported.

"We are also considering additional civil actions against the more than 90 people who have sent flashing strobe lights to Mr. Eichenwald subsequent to the public disclosure that Mr. Rivello's strobe attack had caused Mr. Eichenwald to have an epileptic seizure," lawyers for the journalist said, LawNewz.com reported.

Lawyers for Rivello did not provide comment to either Newsweek or LawNewz.com
