Napolitano: DHS Report a Guide, Not an Accusation

WASHINGTON -- Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano says an agency report warning of potential heightened activity by right wing extremists violated nobody's rights and only a form of guidance for police forces.

Interviewed as she toured the troubled U.S.-Mexican border in advance of President Barack Obama's visit to Mexico, Napolitano was asked about a part of the internal report suggesting that some U.S. military veterans could turn to such extremist activities.

Napolitano responded in an interview on CBS's "The Early Show" Thursday by saying the intelligence findings from Homeland Security "are not accusations, they are assessments." She described the conclusions as giving state and local law enforcement authorities a "situational awareness" of potential threats during troubled economic times.
