The first openly transgender child actor will perform on an episode of the award-winning "Modern Family," Variety reports.

The episode airing Wednesday, "A Stereotypical Day," features same-sex parents Cam, played by Eric Stonestreet, and Mitchell, played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, confronting adopted daughter Lily, played by Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, after she insults her transgender friend Tom during a play date.

Tom is played by 8-year-old transgender actor, Jackson Millarker.

The ABC sitcom, currently in its eighth season, has 22 Emmy awards, tying with "Frasier" for the most wins in the "outstanding comedy series" category, Variety reports.

According to Variety, other shows that have had transgender characters played by transgender actors include "Orange Is The New Black" and "Nashville." Fifteen-year-old Jazz Jennings has her own reality show on TLC, "I Am Jazz."
