Former Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush has a teammate in his bid to buy the Miami Marlins baseball team: retired New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter.

The Miami Herald cited people close to the situation as saying the two men combined their bid to purchase the franchise from current owner Jeffrey Loria.

The team was known as the Florida Marlins when it first joined Major League Baseball in 1993, but in 2012 it moved to a publicly owned park in Miami and had to change its name to the Miami Marlins, per an agreement with the city.

Loria is now seeking a suitor to buy his franchise.

Bush, who served as Florida's governor from 1999-2007, and Jeter, who retired from playing professional baseball in 2014, once had separate bids to purchase the team. Their joint bid, the Herald reported, is now going up against one from New York financier Wayne Rothbaum.

The family of Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of President Donald Trump and one of his senior advisers, was rumored to have an agreement with Loria to purchase the team earlier this year. The family backed out of the deal after it became public the Trump administration was looking at potentially making Loria the U.S. ambassador to France.
