Mexican Lawmaker Climbs Border Wall In Message to Trump: 'How Simple It Is'

A Mexican lawmaker shot a video from on top of a 20-foot wall at the border of San Diego and Tijuana as a message to President Donald Trump.

"It's completely unnecessary—and it's absurd—to build at wall that costs $15 billion. Look, in these 8 meters, more or less 8, 10 meters, how simple it is to climb," Braulio Guerra, a member of Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto's ruling party, said in Spanish in the video, according to CNN.

Guerra posted the two-minute video on his Twitter account.

The lawmaker said he posted the video to talk to people who are being sent back to Mexico by the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, not just as a message to Trump.

"It was easy to get up the wall, but there are many dangers to our people. Human rights, principles and dignity are not negotiable," Guerra wrote in his tweet.

In the video, Guerra called on the U.S. and Mexico to "be good neighbors and help each other."

"This is to be able to improve the relationship and stop the migrant flow, and return to friendly relations that produce jobs, that translate into good economic terms and development for both countries," Guerra said.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency said in February that it planned to begin awarding contracts to build the wall in April.

Also on Twitter, Guerra posted pictures taken while he sat atop the wall, including one of two people climbing over it. Guerra said they were climbing over it while he was there.

Since Guerra did not post photos or video of himself climbing the wall, some on Twitter questioned whether the climb is really as easy as Guerra claims, ABC News reports.
