The non-profit journalism group plugged by Meryl Streep during her rant against Donald Trump at the Golden Globes Sunday night has seen a dramatic spike in donations.

As of Monday afternoon, the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) received about 1,000 donations totaling more than $80,000, the group's advocacy director Courtney Radsch told Poynter.org.

"I don't think any of us were expecting such a ringing endorsement for our work and the right of journalists to report the news, which is our mission," she said.

Accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the glitzy Hollywood ceremony, Streep tore into Trump without mentioning him by name, criticizing him for allegedly mocking a disabled New York Times reporter in 2015 — a charge he has denied.

The star of "Sophie's Choice," "Silkwood" and "The Devil Wears Prada" then urged the Hollywood community to support journalists who cover the future commander-in-chief.

"We need the principled press to hold power to account, to call him on the carpet for every outrage. That's why our founders enshrined the press and its freedoms in the Constitution," Streep said.

"So I only ask the famously well-heeled Hollywood Foreign Press and all of us in our community to join me in supporting the Committee to Protect Journalists, because we're gonna need them going forward, and they'll need us to safeguard the truth."

The CPJ later tweeted out a thank you to the Oscar-winning actress for her endorsement:

The New York City-based CPJ says its mission is to promote press freedom worldwide and "defend the right of journalists to report the news without fear of reprisal."
