Facebook's Zuckerberg Slammed by ICE Agents over Immigration Push

By    |   Sunday, 24 Nov 2013 08:12 PM

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg continued his push for immigration reform on ABC's "This Week," as ICE agents asked him to suspend his actions until they meet with him.

"There are a lot of misconceptions about [illegal aliens] and a lot of them came here just because they want to work," Zuckerberg said on "This Week."

Zuckerberg's FWD.us campaign is urging Congress grant more visas to high-skilled workers, establish a path to citizenship for the 11 million illegal aliens currently in the United States and secure the borders.

"I’m fundamentally an optimistic person as an entrepreneur," Zuckerberg said. "The vast majority of Americans want this to happen. We have to push forward. It needs to happen."

Zuckerberg said the immigration reform fight is a major civil rights issue.

Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., disagreed with that assessment, telling the New York Post that Zuckerberg was being "disrespectful to our nations civil rights heroes.

"There is a legal process to enter our nation and we should not reward those who circumvented it," Gosar said.

Meanwhile, Breitbart News reports that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) National Council president Chris Crane has sent a letter to Zuckerberg and other CEOs who are pushing the immigration bill backed by the Senate "Gang of Eight."

Crane said he believes many of the CEOs don't understand the dangers the law would create.

In a statement to Breitbart, Crane said:

"Mr. Zuckerberg ignored the letter and meeting request from ICE law enforcement and instead met with illegal immigrants. We therefore renew our request to meet with Mr. Zuckerberg and share firsthand the knowledge and experience of ICE officers and agents who witness every day the negative impact to public safety that occurs because ICE officers are prohibited from enforcing the nation’s immigration laws.

"The first question I would ask Mr. Zuckerberg would be: why did you support a bill, S. 744, which legalizes aliens with extensive criminal records, including sex offenders, gang members and other violent and dangerous criminal aliens? Until Mr. Zuckerberg meets with officers and learns the truth about our immigration system, I would respectfully suggest he suspend his lobbying activities."
