Mark Levin Blasts GOP: 'The Constitution Is in Tatters'

By    |   Monday, 15 Dec 2014 11:00 PM

Conservative radio host Mark Levin ripped Republicans during the opening monologue of his show Monday night, saying that he was "one inch away" from leaving the party and that "the Constitution is in tatters."

Levin began by saying he's fighting the flu and he's "about 70 percent, but nobody can keep me away from the microphone today."

Levin then went off on Republicans, particularly the leaders of the party, in the wake of the $1.1 trillion budget bill passed last week that averted a government shutdown. House Speaker John Boehner worked with President Barack Obama to secure the votes to pass the bill in the House, a move that has been criticized from the right.

The Senate passed the bill late Saturday night, and Obama is expected to sign it into law sometime before the Wednesday night deadline.

"I want to tell the Republican leadership, the RNC, the NRSC, the NCCC, the NAACP — whatever they call themselves in the Republican Party — I am one inch away from leaving you. And I bet I speak for hundreds of thousands of people. One inch," Levin said in his remarks, which can be heard at The Right Scoop.

"You think this is a joke? You think you can lie to the American people? Do you think you can lie to Republicans and lie to conservatives about how you're going to defund Obamacare, run millions of dollars on ads on that to get re-elected, on how you're gonna fight unconstitutional amnesty? Tooth and nail? You think you can lie to us with impunity? And repeatedly?

"I don't care how many millionaires and billionaires you have in your damn back pocket. . . . I don't care about your damn procedures, and neither does anybody else.

"We read what you have to say about Ted Cruz and Mike Lee in of all places Politico, that liberal rag. You sound like a bunch of munchkins! Backbenchers! Immature! Stupid! Childish comments! I don't know what this is gonna add up to. I don't know why we're here. I've seen this movie before. And you're so ineffective. And you're so impotent. We've seen this movie before, and you still can't get off your ass and do something about it."

Sens. Cruz and Lee voiced their opposition to the spending bill and vowed not to vote for it. Members of both parties, however, criticized them — particularly Cruz — for what they said was keeping them on the Senate floor for long hours on Saturday.

"'Well, we might shut down the government,'" Levin quipped. "I worked for a president who shut down the damn government over half a dozen times. It's not the end of the world. And it wasn't the end of the world last year. Our Constitution's in tatters.

"Our Constitution is in tatters and you just voted, many of you, to rubber-stamp what Obama did. And that's how he saw it. And he's smiling all over today, and he's going on his Hawaii trip for 17 days, while you pathetic politicians can't even muster the seriousness to vote the right way. The republic is in decline. We live in a post-constitutional period."
