Attorney General Loretta Lynch said she supports the Federal Bureau of Investigation and its leaders.

"I've worked with dedicated agents of the FBI for a number of years. I've also known Director Comey for a number of years," Lynch told MSNBC on Monday.

"I think when you look at their body of work and how they have comported themselves over the years, that's why I do have confidence in both the agency and the leadership of it."

Host Tamron Hall looked back at Comey's announcement that the FBI was looking into emails found on former congressman Anthony Weiner's laptop regarding the Hillary Clinton email issue.

She asked if Lynch had recommended that Comey write that letter.

"What I can say is that this matter was discussed vigorously at the highest levels of the department. That does include me," Lynch replied. "My views were known to the director."

When asked about the nature of the investigations that have come out in public, Lynch said that until recent events, the public never was able to scrutinize intelligence agencies' work.

"In most instances, people never hear about the investigations," Lynch said, adding that the public nature of the Hillary Clinton matter made the public expect to know more about intelligence investigations.

"It's really the norm not to have that kind of comment," Lynch said and she hoped that Americans understand the need to keep investigations secret while they are ongoing.

The attorney general is preparing to exit the job, which she has held for 20 months, according to USA Today.
