The "pessimistic" U.S. business outlook has "turned the corner" with the election of Donald Trump, according to economic commentator Larry Kudlow.

In an interview interview with radio host John Catsimatidis to air Sunday on "The Cats Roundtable," Kudlow — a contender to become the next chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers — said Trump's election marked the end of a "war on business."

"It's been a pretty pessimistic country for some time, but it looks like Trump has really turned that corner," said Kudlow, a senior contributor to CNBC who also served as Trump's economic adviser during the campaign.

"You had so much war on business in the last eight or 10 years ... and I think that has really damaged the economy and I think that held business back from investing and creating jobs," he added.

He added that Trump will have to hold businesses accountable, however.

"Trump absolutely wants to do everything he can to help business ... but as we've seen, regarding very big businesses, multinationals who are doing business with the government ... Trump has really got to hold their feet to the fire," he said.

Meanwhile, he said long-term rates are rising because investors are expecting higher economic growth rates, predicting if Trump succeeds in implementing his proposals, the United States can see a GDP growth rate of 4 to 5 percent.
