Jared Kushner will lead a new office in the White House aimed at breaking through the Washington bureaucratic red tape, The Washington Post reports.

The office, titled the White House Office of American Innovation, will operate independently within the West Wing and report directly to President Donald Trump, Kushner's father-in-law. It will be staffed by former business executives whose goal is to "infuse fresh thinking into Washington," reports the Post.

"All Americans, regardless of their political views, can recognize that government stagnation has hindered our ability to properly function, often creating widespread congestion and leading to cost overruns and delays," Trump said in a statement to the paper.

"I promised the American people I would produce results, and apply my 'ahead of schedule, under budget' mentality to the government."

The team will first tackle Veterans Affairs issues, combating opioid use, boosting technology and data infrastructure of every federal department and agency, revamping workforce-training programs and developing what Kushner calls "transformative projects," such as providing broadband Internet service to all Americans.

"We should have excellence in government," Kushner told the Post Sunday. "The government should be run like a great American company. Our hope is that we can achieve successes and efficiencies for our customers, who are the citizens."
