Central Intelligence Agency Director John Brennan said he "wouldn't be surprised" by more hacks on the election system as Russian hackers have been breaking into U.S. political websites for years, CBS News reported.

Brennan's comments come in the wake of another dump of Democratic National Committee documents by the hacker, Guccifer 2.0. The leaked personal emails of former secretary of state Colin Powell, in which he rips apart both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, has spurred more controversy and concern over the country's cybersecurity efforts.

Expecting more breached emails ahead of the elections, Brennan said, "I certainly wouldn't be surprised if we see it coming out."

The CIA director did not directly blame Russia, but pointed out that Russia had a history of snooping in other countries during elections.

"I think there are capabilities that a number of our adversaries have -- and again I'm not just talking about nation states or other countries -- I’m talking about individuals who may want to demonstrate that they’re able to hack into systems and release things for whatever their agenda might be, whether it be a political agenda or one that is just trying to undermine our system of democracy here," Brennan told CBS.

Brennan also cautioned that U.S. must be on their guard as Russia has "exceptionally capable and sophisticated" computer capabilities, the Associated Press reported.
