FBI director James Comey reportedly inflated the number of emails Hillary Clinton's former top aide, Huma Abedin, forwarded to her then-husband Anthony Weiner during testimony last week on Capitol Hill.

Comey told lawmakers on the Senate Judiciary Committee Abedin regularly forwarded Weiner emails for him to print out for her. Many of them, he said, contained classified information.

"Somehow, her emails were being forwarded to Anthony Weiner, including classified information," Comey said. "His then-spouse Huma Abedin appears to have had a regular practice of forwarding emails to him for him I think to print out for her so she could then deliver them to the secretary of state."

Abedin was Clinton's right-hand woman while the latter served as secretary of state from 2009-2013, and again during her failed presidential run last year.

Comey said Abedin "forwarded hundreds and thousands of emails [to Weiner], some of which contain classified information."

According to ProPublica, Comey was wrong. The website reports that Abedin only sent a handful of emails to Weiner for him to print out for her. And there were only a dozen emails with classified information found on Weiner's laptop.

ProPublica reports that the FBI is now trying to decide how to address the misinformation, which may involve writing a letter to Congress that would correct the transcripts of Comey's testimony.

The Washington Post put together a short video with highlights from Comey's testimony last Wednesday, which included his statements about Abedin's alleged email practices.

Days before last November's presidential election, the FBI said it was taking another look at Clinton's email scandal because of new evidence that turned out to be emails discovered on Weiner's laptop. Some investigators, however, think most of them got there when Abedin made backups of her Blackberry device.

Many Democrats blamed Comey for Clinton's loss to Republican Donald Trump in the election because of the FBI's investigation into her own email practices, which involved using a private server and several addresses while she led the Obama administration's State Department.
