Issa to Obama: Americans Deserve Complete Answers on Libya Killings

By Newsmax Wires   |   Friday, 19 Oct 2012 02:52 PM

Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., is taking direct aim at President Barack Obama in his investigation of the killing of four Americans last month in Libya.

Last week the House Oversight Committee chairman questioned State Department staffers about the weak security for American diplomats in the country. And on Friday he sent Obama a letter demanding answers as to why the administration weakened our security effort in Libya while the country was still in a fragile state after a civil war, The Hill reports.

“Americans deserve a complete explanation about your administration's decision to accelerate a normalized presence in Libya at what now appears to be at the cost of endangering lives,” Issa wrote.

Urgent Poll: Obama or Romney? Who Won the Second Debate?

“These critical foreign policy decisions are not made by low- or mid-level career officials — they are typically made through a structured and well-reasoned process that includes the National Security Council at the White House. The ultimate responsibility rests with you as the president of the United States.”

The White House “has not been straightforward with the American people in the aftermath of the attack,” the letter said.

Meanwhile, Republicans ripped into Obama for telling Jon Stewart of Comedy Central’s "The Daily Show" Thursday that the White House response to the Sept. 11 attack was “not optimal.” Arizona Sen. John McCain and New Hampshire Sen. Kelly Ayotte called the statement “astounding” and “inappropriate.”
