A voter questioning Hillary Clinton at a campaign event on Tuesday had harsh words for Republican rival Carly Fiorina, a former CEO of Hewlett-Packard.

The man, who attended the town hall-style event at a VFW hall in Derry, New Hampshire, said he was a veteran and asked the Democratic presidential front-runner about Social Security, then veered into a story about crossing paths with Fiorina at the technology company.

“I worked for Hewlett-Packard when Carly Fiorina was CEO,” said the man, who didn't audibly give his name. He talked about watching the company grow, then being laid off as the company bought private jets.

“Every time I see her on TV, I want to reach through and strangle her,” said the man to a few nervous laughs from the crowd. “I know that doesn’t sound good,” he added.

Clinton interjected, “I wouldn't mess with you.”

Republicans blasted Hillary's reaction.

“By laughing off a male questioner’s desire to strangle Carly Fiorina, Hillary Clinton and the Democrats have lost all credibility claiming to be a party that stands up for women. Jokes about committing acts of violence against women are always in poor taste and should be condemned every time," Republican National Committee Press Secretary Allison Moore wrote in a statement emailed to reporters.

“Hillary Clinton routinely exhibits the worst kind of hypocrisy on women’s issues, whether it’s launching attacks on equal pay despite paying women less than men in her Senate."

The man told Clinton he gets upset when he hears Fiorina call Clinton a liar.

“Unfortunately that's the political season we’re in,” the candidate said.

It wasn't the first time Fiorina's business record has returned—to troubling effect, for her—in such settings. A woman who said she was a former Lucent employee raised it at an event with Republican Donald Trump in September, prompting the billionaire to go on the attack against Fiorina.

Fiorina spokeswoman Anna Epstein didn't immediately respond to an invitation to comment on Tuesday's exchange. It came hours before Fiorina is set to debate her competitors on prime-time TV in Milwaukee. Clinton was in New Hampshire to promote her veterans plan.
