Hillary Clinton and New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio are in hot water regarding their role in a racial joke over the weekend.

The pair appeared onstage during an annual dinner for New York City's press and talked about de Blasio's endorsement of Clinton in the Democrat presidential race.

"I just have to say thanks for the endorsement, Bill. Took you long enough," Clinton said. De Blasio formerly worked as Clinton's campaign manager during her 2000 Senate run.

"Sorry, Hillary, I was running on C.P. time," de Blasio said.

Several media outlets, including Raw Story, report that C.P. time refers to "colored people's time" an African-American stereotype used when someone is late.

The audience appeared to gasp and a black actor on stage, Leslie Odom Jr., seemed to take offense.

"I don't like jokes like that, Bill. That's not funny," Odom said.

Clinton seemingly tried to correct the moment by looking at the audience and saying, "cautious politician time. I've been there." It's unclear whether Clinton's response was part of the scripted show or if it was an off-the-cuff remark.

The annual event is called Inner Circle and involves the mayor and the press roasting each other. Odom was dressed as Aaron Burr, whom he is playing in the Broadway show "Hamilton."

Last week, former President Bill Clinton confronted Black Lives Matter protesters while he was speaking on behalf of his wife's campaign.

"You're defending the people who killed the lives you say matter. Tell the truth," said Clinton, who issued a half-apology the next day.
