Ex-CIA Chief Hayden: Military Would Refuse to Do Some Trump Campaign Promises

The nation's military would most likely disobey Donald Trump if he instituted such campaign promises as torturing suspected terrorists and killing family members if he were to become president, retired Air Force Gen. Michael Hayden said.

"If he were to order that once in government, the American armed forces would refuse to act," Hayden Friday told HBO talk-show host Bill Maher.

Hayden once directed both the CIA and the National Security Agency.

"You’re required not to follow an unlawful order," he told Maher. "That would be in violation of all the international laws of armed conflict.

I would be incredibly concerned if a President Trump governed in a way that was consistent with the language candidate Trump expressed during the campaign."
