Gingrich: Radical Islam Could Be U.S. Problem for '70 Years'

By    |   Sunday, 05 May 2013 04:27 PM

America is still refusing to come to grips with how serious radical Islamist terrorism is, Newt Gingrich said Sunday.

"I think it could be a 50- to 70-year problem," he said during a roundtable discussion on "Meet the Press."

The former GOP speaker of the House and presidential candidate blasted the Obama administration for refusing to admit the attack on Fort Hood was terrorism rather than a "workplace incident."

Thirty of the FBI's 31 most wanted terrorists are radical Islamists, he said.

"Yet the coverage of the first few days after Boston was, 'Gee, I wonder what motivated these two Chechens?'"

On other topics, Gingrich said Obamacare will be the president's biggest problem in the next year and that during the recent talk of same-sex rights, religious rights are being left out of the discussion.

As Obamacare is further implemented, Gingrich said "the pain level it's going to cause is going to be enormous." The number of people who have their jobs reduced to 29 hours so their employers won't have to pay for their health insurance will be "staggering."

Despite good numbers on unemployment in April, the U6, which counts the unemployed, underemployed and those who have dropped out of the job hunt, is up.

When asked if a GOP presidential candidate could support same-sex marriage, Gingrich said the real issue is the "one-sidedness" for rights.

"There are no rights for Catholics to have adoption services in Massachusetts," he said. "They're outlawed. There are no rights in D.C. for Catholics to have adoption services. They're outlawed."

He said there is a "sort-of respect" for religion in America "as long as you don't practice it."
