First lady Melania Trump was scheduled to tour the German Climate Computing Center, a lab that uses supercomputers to look at climate change, but protesters disrupted the trip.

Joachim Sauer, Chancellor Angela Merkel's husband, a physical and theoretical chemistry professor, had set up a tour of the center on Friday for the spouses of G-20 leaders, but demonstrators disrupted the world leaders' summit, according to Bloomberg.

Hamburg police were not able to give the first lady clearance to participate in the program, said Stephanie Grisham, the first lady's spokeswoman.

Sauer did not comment on the purpose of the visit to the climate change lab, but Merkel has publicly noted her opinion on the issue.

"We want to tackle this existential challenge and we can't and we won't wait until the last person on Earth is convinced of the scientific basis for climate change," Merkel said in a June 29 speech, according to Newsweek.

The first lady was able to tour a science center during this week's trip with the president to Poland.
