Fake news has been hanging on the walls of at least four of President Donald Trump's golf clubs — a Time magazine cover from March 1, 2009 featuring the pre-presidential mogul, The Washington Post reported.

The fake cover shot of Trump is accompanied by the all-caps headline: "TRUMP IS HITTING ON ALL FRONTS . . . EVEN TV!" the Post reported.

The Post reported there was no March 1, 2009, issue of Time Magazine – and no issue at all that year with Trump on the cover. And according to Time magazine's own accounting, Trump has been on the cover just once before he entered politics, in January 1989.

"I can confirm that this is not a real Time cover," Kerri Chyka, a spokeswoman for Time Inc., told the Post in an email, the outlet reported.

The fake – spotted by a reporter visiting one of the Trump golf courses – also has some subtle giveaways, according to the Post: The cover's border is too skinny and lacks a white one next to the red border; secondary news headlines are on the right side instead of the usual spot across the top; and exclamation points are never used on Time covers.

Though it is not clear who created the phony cover, or why, March 1, 2009, was the season debut of Trump's show "The Celebrity Apprentice," the Post reported.

The Post found that bogus cover has been hung in at least four of Trump's 17 golf clubs: at Trump's resort in Doral, Fla., in suburban Virginia, at Trump's golf resort in Doonbeg, in western Ireland, and at the Turnberry club in Scotland.
