TOKYO — A film distributor has halted showings of Clint Eastwood's tsunami-related movie "Hereafter" in Japan because of the deadly earthquake and subsequent tsunami that killed thousands in that East Asian island nation.
The movie, which began showing in about 1809 theaters in Japan in February and was expected to run into late March, is about a woman who has a near-death experience after being caught in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. It has graphic tsunami footage, although the story line centers on her attempts to prove to the scientific community that life exists after death
The terrifying tsunami scenes in the movie are "not appropriate" at this time, Warner Entertainment Japan Inc. official Satoru Otani said Monday.
