Angered by Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump's remarks on immigrants earlier this year, the TV networks Univision and NBC made the decision to not only ditch his beauty pageants, but cut ties with the real estate mogul entirely.

However, after Sunday night's 2015 Miss Universe Pageant in Las Vegas, the Washington Post declared that Trump was the winner of the beauty pageant without even stepping on stage.

In what was possibly the strangest ending of any pageant, host Steve Harvey announced Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo, as the winner. However, moments later she was dethroned as Harvey returned to the stage to announce that he had made a mistake and Pia Wurtzbach of the Philippines as the real winner.

"Well, it was something I guess that can happen. Steve Harvey is a great guy," Trump told NBC's Matt Lauer on the "Today Show" Monday.

"It certainly was a terrible error, terrible for the young woman from Colombia, but, you know, things happen. It's live television," he added.

On air, Harvey admitted the incredibly awkward mix-up was entirely his fault. However, Town Hall reports that it was later revealed on the Miss Universe Snapchat account that the teleprompter had mistakenly said the wrong winner.

When Lauer questioned how he would have handled the situation, Trump replied: "I'll tell you what I think I would do. I would make them a co-winner.

"I would recommend that they have a beautiful ceremony which is good for the brand and Miss Universe … I think something like that could work," Trump continued.

According to the Washington Post, Trump instantaneously was able to spin the loss of a business valued up to $25 million into a political and financial victory.

And, viewers took to Twitter, declaring Trump a winner: In September 2015, Trump sold the organization to WME-IMG, but another individual supporting Trump tweeted: Even Trump entered the Twittersphere: He also retweeted a comment that suggested he should have stayed with the organization, despite the controversy: Related Stories:
