Donald Trump has captured the top spot in a new national poll, edging out Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

According to a Fox News poll conducted July 13-15 of 1,019 registered voters, Trump leads all Republican presidential candidates for the 2016 race at 18 percent, an increase of 7 points since last month and 15 points since March.

Walker, who announced his candidacy on Monday, is in second place with 15 percent, while Bush comes in third place at 14 percent.

"I am incredibly pleased that my message is resonating with people all over the United States. There are so many Americans that are ready to make our country great again and I am the only one who can make it happen. We will bring back the jobs, bring back the money, and bring back the spirit!" Trump said in a statement.

The poll also found that 68 percent of voters polled agree with Trump's strong stance on illegal immigration.

The survey, released on Thursday, will be one of five polls that determine the top 10 candidates for the first Republican debate on Aug. 6.

Behind Trump, Walker and Bush, the following candidates also meet that criteria in the current poll:
  • Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, in fourth place with 8 percent
  • Florida Gov. Marco Rubio has 7 percent support
  • Former pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson gets 6 percent
  • Texas Sen. Ted Cruz has 4 percent
  • Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee is also at 4 percent support
  • New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie has 3 percent
  • Ohio Gov. John Kasich and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum are tied with 2 percent each.
This is not the first poll putting Trump at the top of the crowded GOP field.

A Suffolk University/USA Today poll published Tuesday put Trump in first place with 17 percent support, compared to 14 percent for Bush.

And in an Economist/YouGov poll released last week, Trump got 15 percent support compared to 11 percent for Bush.
