Donald Trump: Kerry Has to Walk If Iran Doesn't Make Deal

By    |   Tuesday, 31 Mar 2015 09:16 PM

Secretary of State John Kerry has to be willing to walk away from the table if Iran refuses to sign an acceptable nuclear deal, real-estate mogul and possible GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump says.

"He has to immediately say this is what we want, and if he doesn't get it he has got to walk," Trump said Tuesday on Fox News Channel's "The O'Reilly Factor."

Trump, who authored "The Art of the Deal" in the 1987, said the negotiations should not have taken anywhere near as long as they have. A Tuesday deadline was extended another 24 hours.

"It's not a deal that should take so long. You can do a deal in one day if they wanted to," Trump said. "The Iranians and the Persians generally are great negotiators. We are terrible negotiators. The people representing the Obama administration and Obama himself are terrible negotiators."

The trade of five top Taliban leaders for Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who has been charged with desertion, is evidence of Obama's inability to negotiate, Trump said.

The United States made a mistake by removing sanctions before talks began, Trump said.

"I have never heard of anything like that. We should have doubled and tripled up the sanctions before negotiation," he said.

American negotiators seem "desperate" for a deal, he said.

If Kerry walks away, he will find out whether Iran really wants to make a deal "when they call you back or they don't call you back."
