After former President George H.W. Bush took some unexpected punches at key figures in his son's administration in a new biography, Dick Cheney and George W. Bush are now responding to senior Bush's remarks.

"Destiny and Power: The American Odyssey of George Herbert Walker Bush," a biography written by John Meacham, quotes senior Bush criticizing Cheney for being an "iron-ass," labeling Donald Rumsfeld as "an arrogant fellow," and even criticizes the 43rd president of his rhetoric.

However, according to CNN, when Meacham showed the transcripts of his conversation with senior Bush to both Cheney and younger bush, both responded, "fascinating."

"He certainly never expressed that opinion to me, either during the presidency or after," George W. Bush said.

And in response to the criticism of his rhetoric, Bush added, "It is true that my rhetoric could get pretty strong and that may have bothered some people — obviously it did, including dad, though he never mentioned it."

CNN reports that Bush also pushed back on the notion that Cheney had an enormous amount of influence in his administration, arguing that "I made the decisions. This was my philosophy."

Though, in response to how the administration reacted after the terrorist attacks on 9/11, Cheney admitted that there's "no question, I was much harder-line after 9/11 than I was before."

However, Cheney told Fox News that he'll take the former presidents "iron-ass" remark as a mark of pride.

"I think a lot of people believed then, and still believe to this day, that I was aggressive in defending, in carrying out what I thought were the right policies," Cheney said.

Despite the heavy criticism, Cheney told Fox News that he respects his former boss and Meacham's book.

"The diary's fascinating, because you can see how he felt at various key moments of his life," Cheney said. "So I'm enjoying the book. I recommend it to my friends. And proud to be a part of it."

Rumsfeld, however, has declined to comment on 41's remarks, Fox News reports.
