Sen. Dan Sullivan: 'Fishy' That Iran Is Off Terror List Amid Nuke Talks

By    |   Wednesday, 18 Mar 2015 06:51 PM

Sen. Dan Sullivan told Fox News it is "fishy" that Iran and Hezbollah have been taken off the official terrorism list just as the United States is undergoing talks with Iran on its nuclear program.

"My first reaction when I heard it was, is this another concession from [Secretary of State] John Kerry in terms of the negotiations with the Iranians?" the Alaska Republican said Wednesday on Fox News Channel's "Your World with Neil Cavuto."

"It seems to me very fishy that certainly in many people's views the biggest terror, the biggest sponsor of state terrorism is Iran," he said.

Sullivan said he is especially unhappy with the change since Iran has had the blood of American soldiers on its hands by providing IEDs to the forces in Iraq that were fighting the U.S. military.

Another theory is that Iran was removed because they are helping Iraq fight the Islamic State [ISIS]. Sullivan said he didn't know whether that was true, but added that if the White House would allow Congress to weigh in on the agreement as Republicans and many Democrats say is required by the Constitution, such questions could be explored.

"I think you're going to see bipartisan support certainly in the U.S. Senate on that position," Sullivan said. "It's going to be an important issue."
