Challenges for Americans amid Donald Trump's presidency are of little note compared to America's challenges fighting Nazis in World War II, a Republican congressman said at a Virginia town hall Tuesday, Politico reported.

"America has overcome amazing challenges. … Donald Trump, as frightening as he is to some people, (is) small potatoes compared to Nazi Germany," Virginia Rep. Tom Garrett told the assembly, video of which resides on Garrett's Facebook page.

The crowd responded with jeers, which led to Garrett, a Republican and Freedom Caucus member, saying, "So he's worse?"

"This great nation will continue to move forward by virtue of the collective of American people,” Garrett said, adding that some conservatives worried about the future of America when Barack Obama was elected president.

Garrett spoke at the town hall moments after the news of Trump firing FBI Director Jim Comey. He said he had seen nothing that led him to believe Trump or any of his associates had ties with Russia.

However, Garrett said Trump must leave office if he is found to have committed an unconstitutional act.

"If I see a Trump who I think has betrayed his duty to the Constitution, he needs to go,” Garrett said.

He also noted that he had no issue with Trump adviser Jared Kushner’s family pursuing business deals in China, adding that Kushner should not be personally involved.

"What did he know and whether he approved of it—that’s the question. If it turned out that Kushner knew his sister was parlaying that family relationship into money, then they need to go.”

The congressman had one woman removed after she ignored instructions to stop disrupting the town hall. Her husband apologized, leading Garrett to say he regretting having her escorted out, Politico reported.

Police officers were present at the town hall because of death threats against Garrett and his family, Garrett said.
