Plane Carrying Bill Clinton Makes Emergency Landing

A plane carrying former President Bill Clinton was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Tanzania on Wednesday because of engine trouble.

According to CNN, one of the plane's four engines experienced a problem. The aircraft landed in Tanzania, a country on Africa's east coast, south of Kenya.

"There was an issue with one of the aircraft's four engines. Because of the airline's protocols, they landed and quickly repaired the engine," Clinton's spokesman Matt McKenna said, CNN reports.

A CBS News report identified the plane as a Canadian turboprop Dash 7.

The plane left Iringa, Tanzania, on Wednesday morning and was headed to Lake Manyara in the country's north when it experienced the problem, CBS reports. The plane made a 45-minute stop at a fueling station in Dodoma while the engine was repaired.

Clinton, his daughter Chelsea, and some of the family foundation's top donors are on a nine-day trip through Africa, where the entourage is stopping to visit programs funded by the foundation.

The group will swing through Tanzania, Kenya, Liberia, and Morocco.

In Morocco, the group will attend the Clinton Global Initiative's Middle East and Africa meeting. The stop in the Arab nation will also include a meeting with King Mohammed VI and his top officials.

The entourage includes past, current, and likely future donors to the Clinton Foundation.

The foundation has come under fire in the last week after allegations in an upcoming book that the Clintons accepted donations from foreign governments in exchange for special favors while Hillary Clinton was secretary of state.

One report said the foundation failed to disclose 1,100 foreign donations.
