The Trump administration's decision to keep White House visitor logs a secret shows the president is hiding something, the American Civil Liberties Union said Friday.

The progressive group posted a statement on its website reacting to the news, accusing President Donald Trump of being too secretive.

"Elected officials work for the people and we deserve to see government business conducted in transparent daylight," the statement reads. "This 'Good Friday' news dump is simply the latest in a series of efforts by President Trump to avoid public accountability, and it's not the way to improve the people's declining trust in this administration."

The statement goes on to accuse Trump of bullying the media, promoting false information, and instituting gag orders on federal employees.

"The only reasonable conclusion is to believe the Trump administration has many things it is trying to hide," the statement reads.

It was reported Friday that the White House will not make its visitor logs public. The new policy says the administration will determine which visitors' names will be released.

The Obama administration was more transparent on the subject of White House visitor logs, although the Trump White House said those logs were incomplete.
