Marco Rubio: My Goal Is Restoring Our 'Vibrant Middle Class'

Republican Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida says if he decides to run for president in 2016, he will focus on the restoring the middle class.

Appearing Monday on Fox News Channel's "Hannity," Rubio said they are the group of hard-working people who can achieve things that make them happy, safe and provide a stable home for their families.

"What makes it special is millions of people who start from nothing … have been able to achieve that," he said. "Now that's eroding for people."

Rubio said he cares about the issue not only because it is the story of his own immigrant parents, but because America cannot remain special if people are unable to climb the economic ladder.

"Every country has rich people. What makes us different is the vibrant working class of Americans," he said. "We have to make sure they have the same chance to achieve."

Rubio is promoting his new book "American Dreams: Restoring Economic Opportunity for Everyone," released Tuesday.

In it, he is critical of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who is expected to be the Democratic presidential front-runner.

"We need to move on," Rubio said of the former first lady's candidacy. "The truth is the 20th century is over. The 21st century is here. The future is now. We need to begin to address 21st century problems with 21st century ideas."

Not only are her principles of big government wrong, Rubio said, but her ideas are the ideas of an era that's come and gone.

"And I think you still find some of that in our party as well," he said. "We need 21st century ideas and solutions."
