Media Rip Republicans; Treat Democrats With Kid Gloves

Guilt by association only applies to Republicans. If you doubt me, ask the nearest Democrat or read the mainstream media.

My father knew this from personal experience. In 1985 he was scheduled to visit Europe as part of the 40th anniversary of the surrender of Germany in World War II.

Since he was going to be in Bonn — the German capital before reunification — West German Chancellor Helmut Kohl invited the president to visit a Germany cemetery to symbolize the strong bonds between the two countries and prove the dark past of World War II had been put behind us.

Since Kohl had withstood great controversy when he supported the U.S. decision to base Pershing missiles in Germany, my father thought agreeing to this visit was the right thing to do. Then we found out who was buried in the cemetery.

Out of a total of 1,887 German war dead, 49 graves were of members of the Waffen SS. Since the SS was in charge of Nazi concentration camps, this was a major public relations problem that had the potential to cancel the visit.

Naturally the media accused my father of wanting to honor the architects of the Holocaust just by being in the same GPS coordinates with SS graves. Yet as the mayor of Bitburg told reporters he doubted there were any military cemeteries in Germany that didn’t have at least a handful of SS men buried there.

This left two options: Briefly visit the cemetery, after a longer ceremony honoring Holocaust victims, and make sure all references to the SS are removed from graves while the president is there. Or, two, cave in to pressure and insult a friend and ally.

Dad visited the cemetery.

Earlier this year Rep. Steve Scalise, R–La., had a similar proximity experience. He was accused of being a KKK sympathizer when it was learned Scalise made a speech in a room used later the same day for a meeting of a racist group called European-American Unity and Rights Organization.

Unable to foretell the future, Scalise talked about local issues to a civic group that used the same room earlier in the day. Scalise didn’t help matters when he issued an apology for a speech he never made to a group he didn’t support, but overcompensation is a hazard for Republicans wary of the media’s penchant for guilt by association.

Now compare my father’s and Scalise’s treatment to the respect and awe the media extends to Planned Parenthood.

As a recent article in The American Spectator points out, Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger spoke before a meeting of the KKK in 1926 and described it thusly, “Always to me any aroused group was a good group, and therefore I accepted an invitation to talk to the women’s branch of the Ku Klux Klan at Silver Lake, New Jersey.”

That’s not all. According to the Spectator, “Progressives today dare not raise the alarming specter of Sanger’s “Negro Project,” or her correspondence with Dr. Clarence Gamble, one of her Negro Project collaborators. In a remarkable Dec. 10, 1939, letter today held in the Sanger archives at Smith College, Sanger urged Gamble: “We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population.”

Black lives matter, unless it’s an inconvenient black life.

This media and Democrat whitewash, no pun intended, extends to award ceremonies.

Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi are both proud recipients of the Margaret Sanger Award. It’s the moral equivalent of the NRA sponsoring the James Earl Ray marksmanship trophy.
The bias and the double standard today in media and politics is pervasive. But you already know that, which is why you’re reading this at Newsmax.com.
