WASHINGTON -- A former aide to Sen. Maria Cantwell has pleaded guilty to a child pornography charge. James Michael McHaney, of Washington, D.C., faces up to 10 years in prison after entering the guilty plea Thursday in federal court. The 28-year-old McHaney was fired from his job as a scheduler for Cantwell, a Washington state Democrat, after his arrest last year. He also worked for Democrat John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign. Prosecutors say that McHaney tried to arrange a sexual encounter with a 13-year-old boy. Police later found child pornography in his car and home.
