Gun Rights Students: Colleges Trample Protest Rights

PITTSBURGH -- College students who support gun rights say campuses nationwide have barred students from publicizing and demonstrating for their cause.

Christine Brashier (BRAH'-sheer) says officials at the Community College of Allegheny County near Pittsburgh won't let her hand out pamphlets in support of the group Students for Concealed Carry on Campus.

Brashier is backed by a Philadelphia-based nonprofit, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education. The group says lawsuits are not out of the question.

The group says similar issues have cropped up at other colleges since the deadly Virginia Tech shooting in 2007.

Spokesman David Hoovler says the Community College of Allegheny County's policy is "people may not bring weapons onto our campuses."
