Hannity: Here's My Take on GOP Debaters

By Amy Woods   |   Wednesday, 19 Oct 2011 04:57 PM

Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney had his “worst debate” of the campaign Tuesday night, while Texas Gov. Rick Perry appeared more “energetic and passionate” than ever, Sean Hannity said on his radio show today.

Hannity acknowledged being “a little bit entertained” by the onstage bickering between Perry and the former Massachusetts governor during the two-hour CNN/Western Republican Leadership Conference debate in Las Vegas.

“On the other hand, I felt that, as this went on, it has a negative impact because, you know, the country’s watching here,” he said. “You’ve got to keep in mind that this is a snapshot. This is a moment. This is a picture. It’s part of a collage that you’re building, if you will. It’ll be long forgotten by the time people go to the polls.”

Hannity told listeners he would not endorse any candidate but instead would size all of them up based on their performance.

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum was strong on substance, knowledgeable, and principled, he said.

“He has a great command of issues,” he said.

Herman Cain also had a lot of great moments and is “so likable,” adding that the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO needs to broaden his defense of his 9-9-9 tax plan.

“He’s got to come up with a better way to explain that plan rather than go to my website and, you know, figure out the math out yourself,” Hannity said.

Hannity described former House Speaker Newt Gingrich as a “fantastic debater” and someone who’s “always in command substantively.”
Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachman gave great answers to questions regarding immigration and national security, although the Minnesota representative is “not quite at the center of things anymore,” he said.

And Texas Rep. Ron Paul “didn’t particularly stand out.”
“This is a process that we’ve got to continue to follow,” he said. “There’s a lot of things out there that still need to come up.”
