Pawlenty vs. Obama: 'It's Going to Take a New President'

Minutes after President Barack Obama announced today via video that he is running for re-election, Tim Pawlenty responded with his own video declaring: “It’s going to take a new president.”

The 35-second video, from Pawlenty’s presidential exploratory committee, opens with the ominous sound of a clock ticking, followed by grim images highlighting escalating gasoline prices, long unemployment lines and the weak housing market. Then Pawlenty appears.

“How can American win the future, when we’re losing the present?” the potential GOP candidate says. “In order for American to take a new direction, it’s going to take a new president.”

The video, “A New Direction,” was released on the former Minnesota governor’s website and to supporters via the Web. It came on the heels of Obama’s own video message, “It begins with us.”
