DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — A Florida pastor has been released from jail after posting a $1 bond that he had earlier refused to pay before a planned demonstration outside a Michigan mosque.
The scheduled protest by the Rev. Terry Jones was supposed to occur at 5 p.m. Friday, but was scuttled by the court proceedings. A jury decided his past actions were evidence the protest outside the Islamic Center of America in Dearborn could lead to violence.
The judge ordered Jones to post the $1 bond to ensure he would not breach the peace. After he refused, he was arrested by Dearborn police.
A burning of the Quran in March at Jones' church in Gainesville, Fla., inflamed anti-Western sentiment in Afghanistan and led to more than a dozen deaths.
