Indiana GOP Gov Daniels: Obamacare 'Massive Mistake'

Monday, 07 Feb 2011 04:27 PM

The governors of 21 states representing 115 million Americans, including Republican Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana, have written to Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius seeking more flexibility in the way healthcare reform is implemented in their states.

In an opinion piece for The Wall Street Journal published on Monday, Daniels called President Barack Obama’s healthcare reform law a “massive mistake” that will add trillions to the federal deficit and lead to a de facto government takeover of healthcare.

Daniels complains that the states will be asked to do the “numbingly complex work” of determining who is eligible for subsidies to pay for healthcare insurance.

Daniels’ letter sets out several conditions to be met before his state agrees to cooperate with HHS in implementing healthcare reform, including that Indiana is “reimbursed the full cost of the administrative burden to be imposed upon it.”
