The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has opened up the 2012 campaign with an advertising blitz against 19 Republicans. Most of the 19 hold seats in congressional districts that President Barack Obama won in 2008, The Washington Post reported
In addition to radio and web ads, the assault will also include phone calls and e-mails. The message will be that the spending cuts advocated by the members will lead to further job losses. A radio ad targeting New York’s Ann Marie Buerkle said she “supports a plan in Congress that would cut education by 40 percent. And her plan would cut science and technology research by 40 percent, too. Research and development is how we get the new products that create new jobs," the Post said.
Other House members targeted include Lou Barletta, R-Pa., Charlie Bass, R-N.H., Steve Chabot, R-Ohio, Chip Cravaack, R-Minn., Bob Dold, R-Ill., Sean Duffy, R-Wis., Blake Farenhold, R-Tex., Mike Fitzpatrick,R-Pa., Nan Hayworth, R-N.Y., Joe Heck, R-Nev., Robert Hurt, R-Va., Thaddeus McCotter, R-Mich., Pat Meehan, R-Pa., Dave Reichert, R-Wash., David Rivera, R-Fla., Jon Runyan, R-N.J., Joe Walsh, R-Ill., and Allen West, R-Fla.
The effort is part of the DCCC “Drive for 25” campaign, the number of seats Democrats need to win to take back the House, the Post said.
