Biden to Attend Emanuel Swearing-in for Mayor

WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden will be on hand when former White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel is sworn in as Chicago's new mayor.

Emanuel says he is glad his friend is coming to represent the Obama administration at the ceremony Monday.

Emanuel served from the beginning of the Obama administration until late last year, when he returned home to Chicago to run for what he has described as his dream job. Mayor Richard Daley decided not to seek a seventh term after 22 years in office.

During the campaign, Emanuel promoted his top-level connections by citing his frequent telephone chats with President Barack Obama.

Emanuel says Biden has a "love for the city" and recognizes how important Chicago, the third-largest American city, is for the country.
