HOUSTON - Former First Lady Barbara Bush underwent successful heart surgery Wednesday afternoon and is now recovering with an excellent prognosis, according to several TV stations in Houston.
The mother of one former president and the wife of another is recovering at Methodist Hospital in Houston. Doctors called it a valve replacement surgery. It was a two-hour procedure that took place at Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.
Methodist told the local Fox News affiliate that that Dr. Jerald Lawrie performed the surgery. He is with the Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center.
Her husband, George H.W. Bush, was with her at the hospital Wednesday night. He says the surgery went well.
In November, Barbara Bush underwent laparoscopic surgery also at Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center. Doctors Surgeons performed the operation to repair a perforated ulcer.
