West Slams Cantor for Lax January House Schedule

Thursday, 16 Dec 2010 11:57 AM

The Republican House freshman class has vowed to end business as usual, and Florida Rep. Allen West is helping to lead the vanguard. In a statement released Thursday, he criticizes House Majority Leader Eric Cantor for coming up with a schedule that gives congressmen too many days off, according to The Hill.

west, cantor, congress, session"As we know, Congress needs to work to create jobs, reduce the deficit, strengthen our economy, limit the size of government and contend with a plethora of national security issues," West says. "How are we to do that when, among other things, we start off being in session only ten days the entire month of January?"

Brad Dayspring, a spokesman for Cantor, defends the schedule. “More days in session has always resulted in bigger, more intrusive government, not more production. What matters is who’s in charge and the process put in place, not the number of days in session," he says.
