Help Your Body Heal Itself

One of the things you learn after practicing medicine for many years is that medicines do not heal us; they merely allow our bodies to heal themselves. God has given each and every one of us the ability to protect ourselves and to heal our bodies.

This lesson is driven home when you see a child who is born with a severe immune deficiency. If that child develops even a simple infection, the strongest antibiotic is useless.

Antibiotics only allow the body to repair itself by reducing the number of invading bacteria to levels that the immune system can handle.

Have you ever wondered why every person does not die when an epidemic sweeps though a community?

Or why just one child out of dozens in a day care center develops haemophilus meningitis? After all, they’re all exposed to the same organism; in fact, millions of children are exposed to the meningitis organism, yet the disease is quite rare.

Careful studies indicate that the problem is not that the organism itself is particularly deadly. Rather, the problem is that certain, unfortunate children have an immune defect or some other abnormality in their body’s defenses that leaves them vulnerable to meningitis.

Maintaining good health is a matter of keeping our defense systems in top condition.

I am convinced that most people with diabetes, for example, could protect themselves from severe complications such as blindness, lost limbs, and heart attacks by protecting themselves from a buildup of free radicals and lipid peroxidation products, which cause inflammation and are produced in massive amounts with this condition.
