Christie Brinkley's Health Secrets

By Sylvia Booth Hubbard   |   Friday, 31 Jan 2014 12:37 PM

Supermodel Christie Brinkley gained worldwide fame in her 20s by posing on the cover of three consecutive Sports Illustrated annual swimsuit issues. Now, she's turning heads once again with her youthful body and getting wide acclaim for her amazing figure by posing in a sexy swimsuit on the latest cover of People magazine at the age of 60.
Brinkley, who celebrates her milestone on Sunday, told People, "I'm actually excited about turning 60. My 50s weren't easy. ... But I made it through. Now I feel on top of my game."

Although the mom of three hasn't had invasive plastic surgery to look younger, she does admit to using Botox and doesn't rule out surgery in the future. But she attributes part of her amazing looks to her vegetarian diet.
"Because I'm an older mom, I have a responsibility to my kids, as well as myself," she said regarding eating healthy and working out. "I want to be there for them."

Here are her tips for keeping herself and her family healthy:
• Choose colorful foods. "For many, many years I've always said I go for as many colors as possible in a day," she told Shape magazine. "That's my main concept for making sure my kids get all the nutrients — making sure they get the deep greens, yellows, and reds and purples, all of that."
• Exercise. Brinkley recommends variety in exercise. "Like eating. I like to vary what I have." she says.  She runs, lifts weights, and as she turns 60, she includes yoga as part of her exercise regimen.
• Eat three meals a day including breakfast. Oatmeal, yogurt, and fruit are favorites for breakfast around the Brinkley household. In addition to lots of fruits and vegetables, Brinkley takes a supplement containing omega-3s, antioxidants, and fiber.
 • Eat healthy snacks. Brinkley's favorites are walnuts, melon, and cold coconut water.
And how does Christy maintain her long, thick blonde locks? "Hair extensions," she revealed in a recent interview. "Literally, it's just click, click, click."
"I don’t believe in allowing my age to define me," she said. "And I really believe attitude plays a huge part in how you feel."
